Robbery Suspect Leads Deputies On a Pursuit Through Rancho Cucamonga and Pomona

A robbery suspect led Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff deputies on a pursuit though Rancho Cucamonga and Pomona. The suspect was stopped in Pomona by a PIT (pursuit-intervention technique). At the same time, a gun in the suspects car discharged and accidently shot him in the face.

The pursuit started around 8:45pm Saturday night in Rancho Cucamonga when the suspect who was later identified as Samuel Smith demanded money at gunpoint from a cashier at a PetSmart on Foothill Boulevard. A Violent Crimes Task Force of Orange County, confronted Smith in the parking lot. Smith shot at them several times and fled in his vehicle. Deputies from Rancho Cucamonga chased Smith through surface streets where it ended in Pomona. Smith remain in the hospital in stable condition.
