Fontana Police shot a barricaded suspect during a violent encounter in Fontana on Thursday afternoon. It all started just after 10am during an assault call inside of a residence in the 15400 block of Sandhurst Street. When officers arrived, they rescued a disabled victim and brought him to safety. The suspect barricaded himself inside.

After hours of negotiations, SWAT officers made entry into the residence. The suspect confronted them with a sharpened metal crowbar. Officers were forced to shoot the suspect. Fontana police have not said if the suspect died as a result of the gunshots. One officer was injured and taken to a hospital. A police K9 was also received a skull fracture and dislocated jaw. Both the dog and officer are expected to make a full recovery. The investigation has been turned over to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department.
