Fourth Fire Breaks Out in Riverside County

A fourth fire broke out in Riverside County amid the scorching temperatures Saturday afternoon. The Gavilan fire was reported just after 3:30pm in the area Gavilan and Multiview Road. The fire rapidly spread into thick vegetation. Firefighters quickly arrived as the fire threatened structures. Several horse properties in the area were evacuated.

Helicopters, air tankers and the DC-10 airtanker dropped water and fire retardant on the flames to keep the fire from spreading. By late evening as temperatures cooled, the fire had grown to 250 acres, but very little flame could be seen. Evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings as firefighters remained at the scene overnight mopping up hotspots. The cause is under investigation. The Gavilan fire is just one of four total fires burning in Riverside County.
