Hazmat Closes Lanes of 60 Freeway in Chino

A Hazmat chemical spill closed lanes of the Eastbound 60 freeway near Ramona Avenue Friday morning in Chino. The call came in around 4am for several buckets of hazardous chemicals that fell from a chemical transport truck. Further down the freeway at the Central Avenue off-ramp, a box truck with major damage could be seen. According to CHP logs, a semi-truck struck the box truck. It is unknown if the box truck was the vehicle responsible for the spilled chemicals on the freeway. Hazmat placards were not immediately visable on the truck.

Hazmat crews from Chino Valley Fire arrived to investigate the chemicals. The details of the chemicals inside the buckets was not released by Chino Valley Fire Department. According the hazmat crews, the chemical was not immediately hazardous to the public and did not pose a threat to the nearby community.

Hazmat crews spent several hours alongside Caltrans cleaning up the spill.
