Fire Burns Building in Riverside

Firefighters in Riverside battled a 3-alarm blaze at the abandoned Public Utilities Commission building Tuesday morning. The fire was reported at 4:50am. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the vacant building located at 3460 Orange Street in Downtown Riverside.

It took firefighters several hours to control and contain the blaze. The cause is under investigation and there were no reported injuries.

Arson investigators have arrested two suspects responsible for starting the fire. 41-year old Isaac Gutierrez Avila of Riverside and 40-year old Pasha Sadvandi also of Riverside were booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on arson charges. Both suspects are reportedly transients.
