Three Killed in Rollover Crash on Interstate 10 in Whitewater

Three people were killed and seven others injured in a rollover crash Sunday morning. The Mother’s Day tragedy unfolded at 7:30am when a Suburban traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 collided with a black Tesla near the Haugen-Lehmann exit in Whitewater, just north of Palm Springs. Several people in the Suburban were ejected.

Among the deceased were a 10-year old girl and 12-year old girl. A 31-year old female also died at the scene. CHP officers say the victims are all from the same family and were traveling from the Anaheim area. Other victims were airlifted to the hospital with major injuries. The driver of the Tesla who is from the Indio area was not injured.

The freeway was closed for several hours causing a back-up that extended as far as Beaumont. Surrounding city streets were also clogged with cars for hours as drivers attempted to navigate their way around the closure. The accident is under investigation.
