Firefighters Battle Out of Control Brushfire Near Lytle Creek

Firefighters are battling a brushfire near Lytle Creek in the San Bernardino National Forest. The fire is burning in an area of the forest called “Gobblers Nob.” Dubbed the “Nob” fire, early reports say it started as a possible controlled burn. The fire broke out just before 11am and put up a huge smoke plume that could be seen across the Inland Empire.

This is the first big fire of the season, giving firefighters a glimpse of what is to come. Even with the heavy rains in the area, there is plenty of dense vegetation to burn which will continue to dry out as temperatures get warmer. Several aircraft and ground crews spent the day trying to contain the fire which is at 200 acres and only 5% reported containment.
