Riverside Sheriff Deputies were in Mead Valley searching for a wanted felon in the 22200 block of River Road just before 5pm Friday. K9 Rudy was assisting deputies in the search and alerted to the suspect’s hiding location. The suspect fired a handgun, striking K9 Rudy. Commands were given to the suspect to surrender. The male suspect who was with a female fled towards a residence. The suspect pointed a gun towards deputies and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The female was detained for questioning.
K9 Rudy was rushed to a local veterinary hospital where he died from his injuries. Just last month, K9 Rudy and his handler Deputy Day received 1st place honors in the Las Vegas Metro Police K-9 Trials in the Handler Protection Category.
