Some have waited a week and everyday frustrations have grown to a boiling point. San Bernardino mountain residents just want to get home. CHP and Caltrans have had Highway 18 closed for over a week citing unsafe conditions. At 4pm Monday, Highway 18 and 330 were open to residents only with valid identification and proof of residency. Many were eager to get up the mountain, loaded with supplies and much needed medicine.
Smaller roads still remain buried in snow. Caltrans was able to make progress on the bigger main roads to allow residents to travel. The mountain remains closed to visitors.
