Corona Carjacking Victim Speaks Out

A victim of a Corona carjacking details what happened to him during a Corona Police pursuit Friday afternoon. Officers attempted to stop a hit and run suspect that occurred in city of Chino just before 3pm. The vehicle, a Mercedes sedan was located by an Ontario Police helicopter. Corona Police officers attempted a traffic stop on the suspect near a Shell gas station at 1550 East Ontario Avenue. The suspect exited his vehicle and confronted Josh Ross with a long rifle, carjacking him.

The suspect fired at least one round from the rifle demanding the truck from Ross up the truck. Ross reluctantly gave up the truck. The suspect fled in the truck heading up the 15 freeway and west on the 91. Officers pursued the truck as the suspect fired several shots until the vehicle was disabled in a crash near Harbor City in Los Angeles County. Police also returned fire. No officers or civilians were hit during the gun battle. The suspect sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital. The suspect was identified as 44-year old Benjamin Gonzalez from Los Angeles County. Gonzalez has a violent criminal history.
