Demolition Set to Begin in Fontana at Auto Club Speedway

Auto Club Speedway hosted its final NASCAR event as a 2-mile oval track over the weekend. Demolition of the track is set to begin immediately according to facility officials. The track opened in 1997 and has hosted NASCAR events ever since. Due to construction, the facility is not on the 2024 schedule. NASCAR will instead race on a custom built track at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

“Unfortunately, even with the most aggressive timeline, we will not race in 2024 on the new track,” Auto Club Speedway Dave Allen said in a recent interview. “The timeline beyond that still has yet to be determined. There are just milestones we need to get through, not the least of which is the design of the race track. We’re still working on that. There are a lot of iterations we’re still designing, both on track and off track.

The speedway in Fontana is returning as a short half-mile track and once construction is completed, will host NASCAR races, concerts and other major events.
