A man suffering from a psychiatric emergency drove through the emergency room glass doors at San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland Tuesday night. The man took his father’s Jeep Gladiator without permission and drove to the hospital around 11:30pm. The man was armed with a knife, puting it to his neck and made suicidal statements to officers. As the man attempted to reverse the Jeep he was blocked in by officers. Less than lethal pepperball rounds were fired at the suspect to stop the vehicle.
Officers negotiated with the man for 44 minutes before he surrendered. He was transported via ambulance for a mental health evaluation. The front of the hospital emergency room sustained some damage during the incident and has resumed normal business operations.
