Riverside Sheriff Deputy Darnell Calhoun Laid to Rest

A touching memorial service was held in Rancho Cucamonga today for fallen Riverside Sheriff Deputy Darnell Calhoun. The day began with a procession from the funeral home in Murrieta, up the 15 freeway to Rancho Cucamonga for the service which was held at Abundant Family Living Church. Firefighters, law enforcement and people lined the 50-mile route, saluting the procession as it passed.

Inside the service, Calhoun was remembered by his longtime pastor, former supervisor at San Diego Police Department and Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco. “Deputy Calhoun exemplified what we want our deputies to be,” said Bianco. Law enforcement from as far as San Francisco attended the service. Calhoun was gunned down by a domestic violence suspect on January 13th in the Lakeland Village area of Lake Elsinore. After the service, there was a missing man formation by several law enforcement helicopters. Calhoun’s body was taken back to the Murrieta area for a private family burial service.

The service comes just two weeks after a funeral was held for Deputy Isaiah Cordero, killed in a traffic stop at the end December.
