The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Aviation Division was involved in two separate rescues on Mt Baldy over the weekend. The first happened on Saturday around 11am. Two Upland residents and their two dogs became stuck on steep icy terrain. Janelle and Joseph Rasich attempted to hike back up to trail but slid at least 20 feet. They were able to dial 911. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department sent a rescue helicopter to the GPS coordinates given by Joseph. The air rescue crew used a hoist rescue system to bring them to safety.
While the Rasich’s were being rescued by the aviation crew, two other hikers approached them and told the crew they were afraid of the icy terrain and did not feel comfortable hiking out on their own. The aviation crew hoisted David Chen and Luming Wang both of Fullerton after completing their original rescue of the Rasich couple.
