Two Montclair High School students were taken into custody Thursday afternoon. Montclair Police officers responded to the school after staff notified them of a viral video showing a student in a classroom in possession of a handgun magazine and live ammunition. The school was placed on a lockdown as a precaution and both students were located and detained without incident.
Police located a loaded magazine in the waistband of one of the students. No actual firearms were involved or brought to the campus. Both students were taken to the San Bernardino Juvenile Hall for booking.
The Chaffey Joint Union High School District released a statement about the incident. “Today, Montclair law enforcement notified Montclair High School administration that they were in possession of a video that showed a student holding a magazine with ammunition – not a gun. The school initiated a lockdown until the student and the magazine were located and in custody. The student was not in possession of a gun. After the student was taken into custody, the lockdown was lifted. As always, the safety of our students is of critical importance, and we appreciate the quick efforts of our local law enforcement personnel.”
