Three people died in a fiery wrong way crash on I-15 at Sierra avenue in Fontana late Monday night. CHP began getting reports of a wrong way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near Summit around 11:40pm. About the same time the head-on crash was reported just a mile north. Two people died after their car caught fire in the collision. A short time later, the driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic was diverted off at Sierra southbound, causing a major back-up for the morning commute. The fatal crash is under investigation and CHP has not said why the driver was going the wrong direction on the freeway.
