Deputy Taken to Hospital After Being Struck by Armed Suspect

A San Bernardino Sheriff deputy in Rancho Cucamonga was rushed to a hospital after being struck by an armed suspect in a vehicle. The deputy was conducting a traffic investigation on a vehicle related to retail theft at the entrance to the shopping center in the 11800 block of Foothill Boulevard just after 7pm Saturday night. An armed suspect identified as 24-year old Marion Bonds rammed into the deputy with a Hyundai Elantra, pinning the deputy between the suspect vehicle and the other vehicle he was investigating.

The deputy fired shots at the suspect who was armed with a knife. Both the deputy and suspect were transported to local hospitals. A large area near the crime scene was roped off Saturday night. The shopping center which is home to several restaurants was busy with patrons. There were no other injuries.
