Two people were killed as a fire rapidly spread through Hemet Monday afternoon. The fire broke out near Fairview avenue and Bautista road around 3:30pm. High winds pushed the flames allowing the fire to rapidly grow in size.

The “Fairview” fire has exploded to 23,919 acres and seven structures have been destroyed. Some of those structures were identified as homes. The victims of the fire have not yet been identified. An evacuation order remains in place for thousands of residents near the communities of Hemet, Sage, and Bautista Canyon. The fire is continuing to rapidly spread in all directions with only 5% containment.
