Extremely heavy monsoon rains washed out a portion of the 10 Freeway in Riverside County on Wednesday evening. Eastbound lanes of the 10 were closed for several hours near Desert Center as Caltrans crew worked on emergency repairs.
Dozens of stranded motorists were advised to find alternate routes, backing up traffic for miles. Caltrans was able to reopen at least 1 eastbound lane by mid-morning Thursday to allow traffic to pass. Repairs to the freeway continue.
