Firefighters Hold Brushfire in Cajon Pass to Under 100 Acres

An aggressive attack by fire crews has kept the Bronco Fire in the Cajon Pass to just ninety-nine acres. The fire broke out just before 1pm on the hillside of the northbound I-15 near Kenwood avenue. A ground and air attack was quickly launched as the flames spread.

Firefighters hiked up hillsides in 100-degree heat while helicopters dropped water above the fire. There were at least three air tankers also dropping retardant to stop the spread of the fire. The Bronco fire was called under control within a couple of hours and firefighters currently have 20% containment. Crews will remain at the scene overnight putting out hotspots. The 15 freeway saw a large back-up of traffic throughout the afternoon and evening. The cause is under investigation.
