A San Bernardino Sheriff deputy in Rancho Cucamonga was checking on a suspicious vehicle in the 5700 block of Sycamore street when the suspect shot him. The deputy, a five year veteran of the department was rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital. During the shooting, the deputy was able to relay suspect information to dispatch. The shooting happened Saturday night at 11:43pm.
Deputies and other law enforcement officers rushed to the scene. The suspect was located a short tie later. He was identified as Nicholas Campbell with prior convictions for carjacking. Campbell was out on parole. The deputy is in stable condition and will continue to recover at the hospital.
