Vigil Held in Upland for Two Slain El Monte Police Officers

A private vigil was held on the football field in Upland Tuesday night for two El Monte Police officers killed in the line of duty during a shooting last week. Family and friends came out to remember 31 year old officer Joseph Santana and 42 year old Corporal Michael Paredes. Both were part of the Upland Community.

During the vigil, stories of both law enforcement officers were told and how they selflessly served the community. The officers were shot and killed after responding to a hotel in El Monte on a domestic violence call. The suspect in the shooting committed suicide shortly after the officers were shot.
