California lawmakers have formed a bipartisan committee to investigate high gas prices in the state. Californians are paying some of the highest prices at the pump than other states in the nation. Lawmakers want to know if the big oil companies have been price gouging.

Gas prices area more than $6 a gallon on average in California while the national average sits at $4.98 per gallon. President Joe Biden has said he may temporarily suspend the federal gas tax to help provide relief. All of the taxes make up at least 85 cents per gallon in the state. California has 36 million registered vehicles on the road.
