Fire Rips Through Pallet Yard Destroying Several Buildings

A blaze at a pallet yard broke out Saturday afternoon in San Bernardino. Fire crews arrived just before 5pm at East Central and South Lugo. The fire quickly spread from the stacked pallets into several buildings and trees fanned by windy conditions and high heat.

Additional alarms were struck, sending dozens of firefighters to the area to battle the blaze. At least 70 personnel were at the scene during the height of the fire. Firefighters also had to deal with downed power lines that hampered their efforts. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within four hours and a dozer remained at the scene moving the the large piles of pallets and other debris. A hazmat team also responded due to the unknown contents of the buildings. A total of three structures were destroyed and two others were damaged. The cause is under investigation.
