California School Mask Mandates to End

On March 12th, California will no longer require masking in schools. It instead, will strongly recommend masks in the classroom. The state will also leave the decision to the school districts to require masks or not.

The decision comes as the state ends the indoor mandate for unvaccinated people. The state will continue to strongly recommend masking, leaving the decision up to individual cities, counties and businesses. Masks will continue to be required for high transmission and at risk areas that include healthcare settings, public transit and long-term care facilities.

Parents and students have protested the mandates in school districts such as Norco. That district has announced it is lifting its mandates to align with the state.
