A wind-driven fire sparked by a vehicle that caught fire while off-roading burned dangerously close to homes in Riverside. The fire started around 11:30am in the Arlanza neighborhood of Riverside off of Jurupa and Tyler streets.

Dozens of firefighters and aircraft battled the 17-acre fire. The fire burned in a mulch pile with extremely gusty winds. The fire blew smoke that caused near zero visibility into the neighborhood.

Fire investigators say a vehicle was making a u-turn around the mulch pile. The occupants of the vehicle were able to escape uninjured. At least 1 firefighter suffered an injury and was transported to a local hospital.
