Governor Gavin Newsom Defeats California Recall

Governor Gavin Newsom will remain in his role as California Governor after yesterday’s recall election. Newsom has been challenged over COVID mandates, the ongoing homeless crisis, unemployment and a multitude of other issues plaguing California.

The ballot had two questions. Should Gavin Newsom be recalled and who should replace him. Conservative talk show host Larry Elder put up a fight against Newsom as did several others including Caitlyn Jenner and former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer. While there was high turn out at the polls Tuesday, there weren’t enough votes to recall the governor. Newsom won more than 60% of the vote and will remain in office until the end of his term in 2023.
