San Bernardino Sheriff Deputy Shot While Attempting Traffic Stop

A San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputy from Central Station was shot Tuesday afternoon. The 27-year old deputy was in the process of making a traffic stop on a White BMW on Bobbett Drive when the suspect began firing several rounds at the deputy.

The deputy who was struck by the gunfire, reported shots fired over his radio at 4:14pm. The first arriving back-up unit placed the deputy in his patrol car and drove to the nearest hospital. Meantime, a large perimeter was set-up to collect evidence and search for the suspect. During the shooting, the deputy’s patrol SUV caught fire. It was later extinguished by a fire crew.

San Bernardino Sheriff Shannon Dicus arrived at the hospital to speak with the injured deputy. Dicus said he was alert and talking and expected to fully recover. Late Tuesday night, the San Bernardino Sheriff SWAT team served a search warrant at an apartment complex in the city of San Bernardino after locating the suspect’s white BMW. Three people were detained.
