A former LAPD officer has finally been charged with voluntary manslaughter after fatally shooting 32-year old Kenneth French at a Corona Costco in 2019. Salvador Sanchez was off duty at the time of the shooting. French was shot by Sanchez after a confrontation inside the store. Sanchez alleges French who suffers from Schizophrenia struck him from behind. Sanchez was holding his young son at the time off alleged attack. Sanchez pulled out his gun and shot French.

Sanchez was taken into custody this morning in Riverside. Originally the grand jury declined to file charges in the case due to insufficient evidence. The state attorney general office reviewed the case and filed charges against Sanchez. He was fired from the LAPD after a board of Police Commissioners determined Sanchez violated department policy.
