Fire in Jurupa Valley Threatens Homes, Prompts Evacuations

A brushfire in the Jurupa Valley area of RIverside County quickly spread to 30 acres and jumped Van Buren Boulevard prompting evacuations. The blaze broke out around 2:15pm and spread quickly. 145 firefighters and two water dropping helicopters battled the fire as well as protected structures.

The neighborhood to the West on Felspar Street in between 54th street and 56th street was evacuated by the Riverside County Sheriff Department. Van Buren Boulevard between Limonite and Jurupa Road was closed in both directions. By nightfall the fire was 40% contained and all evacuations were lifted. No structures were burned and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
