Downey High School Students Rescued from Mt Baldy

Fifty-One students from the Downey High School Soccer and Lacrosse teams along with two coaches and a teacher went on a hike in Mt. Baldy Monday morning. They broke up into several small groups. Some of them made it back to their vehicles but some got lost and were unable to hike out.

By Monday evening, San Bernardino Sheriff Search and Rescue was called in. Ten juveniles and three adults were hoisted off the mountain by Sheriff helicopters. Two teens remained missing on the mountain. They were safely located Tuesday morning and hoisted to safety by the Sheriff helicopter.

Downey Unified School District officials refused to answer the question about the hike being a school sanctioned event. District officials released a statement saying they are looking into what happened.
