The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has appointed Shannon Dicus to replace John McMahon as San Bernardino Sheriff. McMahon announced last month he would retire.
McMahon still had eighteen months left on his elected term. Voters will have an opportunity to elect a Sheriff in 2023. McMahon has served the Sheriffs department for 36 years. His last day will be July 16th. Dicus served as undersheriff and has held a variety of roles within the department during his career. He started with the department in 1991.
“Undersheriff Dicus has been with the Sheriff’s Department for 30 years and clearly led the field of applicants in experience and knowledge,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman. “He has overseen or served within virtually every division in the department. This county must have someone who is ready to step into the role of sheriff in nine days.”
