A 5-year old boy went missing from his family’s campsite Sunday afternoon in the Cougar Buttes area of Johnson Valley. Otto Dahl was last seen around 2:30 in the afternoon riding a small Yamaha Pee-Wee dirt bike.
Volunteer Search and Rescue teams from the San Bernardino Sheriff department fanned out into the desert and searched throughout the night for Otto. Early in the morning they were joined by other volunteers who saw social media posts and came out to assist in the search.
A group of searchers on dirtbikes located Otto’s tracks around 5am Monday morning. Two hours later they located him unharmed and in good spirits. He was checked out by paramedics before being brought back to the command post to be reunited with his family.
His family thanked all of the volunteers for helping to find Otto.
