Tesla Involved in Fontana Fatal Crash May Have Been on Auto Pilot

Investigators are looking into the May 5th crash on the 210 Freeway in Fontana that involved an overturned gravel truck and a Tesla. The crash happened in the early morning hours on the 210 freeway near Citrus Avenue. A gravel truck overturned, and a good Samaritan stopped to help the truck driver. A Tesla crashed into the gravel truck killing the 35-year old good Samaritan.

Investigators now say the Tesla may have been in “autopilot” mode. Tesla cars are known for their partially automated driving system. There have been at least four crashes in the United States involving a Tesla operating in the autopilot mode.
