Woman Found Dead in Upland

A woman was found dead lying next to vehicle in an Upland neighborhood this morning. Upland Police received a suspicious circumstance call around 7am Thursday. The caller advised there was a female lying in the roadway near a vehicle and a male was seen leaving the area.

Upland Police responded and pronounced the woman dead from apparent stab wounds near 18th and Mountain Avenue. The woman has been identified as 20-year old Monique Briseno from Montclair. They located a male suspect nearby and took him into custody. He has been identified by police as 24-year old Angel Ancira from Colton. Ancira was booked into West Valley Detention Center for murder. Ancira is on probation for grand theft auto. Police also located a suspicious female in the area who was also detained. Detectives are still trying to determine her involvement in the homicide.

A bloodhound dog was used to canvas the area for evidence. Police also went door to door in the neighborhood looking for witnesses and surveillance video. Police think the stabbing happened in the vehicle as it was traveling through the neighborhood. The investigation is ongoing, and police say the Briseno and Ancira knew each other.
