Fontana Police Shoot and Kill Burglary Suspect

Fontana Police responded to burglary in progress call in a new home development in the 16500 block of Casa Grande. The call came in around 10:30pm Saturday night. Police found a suspect burglarizing a woman’s house. The woman, who was not home at the time became aware of the burglary through a video surveillance system.

As officers arrived, the suspect, identified as Daverion Kinard fled on foot. After a foot chase the Kinard was found hiding in a nearby outbuilding. According to police, Kinnard was given verbal commands to surrender but did not. Kinard, who was hiding in a portable restroom on the new home development construction site was confronted by an officer. At some point an officer involved shooting occurred with an officer firing one round. Kinard was treated by officers at the scene but died from his injuries at a local hospital.

The San Bernardino Sheriff department is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation. All of the officers were wearing body worn cameras and the use of force investigation will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office.
