San Bernardino County opened a “vaccine supersite” at Auto Club Speedway on Tuesday.
3,500 eligible residents with appointments were vaccinated in the parking lot of the Fontana race track. Appointments were in high demand with all being booked within the first 20 minutes of opening. Doses continue to remain in short supply, however those that were vaccinated at the site have been guaranteed an appointment to get the required second dose.
“While we are unable to accommodate everyone, who would like to be vaccinated, establishing this large, centrally-located site represents an important milestone in our battle against the coronavirus,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman. “As soon as the state provides us with more doses, we can activate this super site again, and open additional vaccination sites throughout the county, including mobile vaccination teams.”
