Dozens of people flocked to Mt Baldy Monday afternoon to play in the snow. The area saw a healthy dumping of snow after a significant winter storm moved through.
The problems began when temperatures began to drop in the evening and the snow on the road turned to ice. Cars began spinning out, some crashing into other cars after drivers slid on the slick roads. As more cars blocked the road, a huge pile-up began to build when everyone wanted to leave the mountain.
More snow began to fall and up to 100 cars became stranded. A single tow truck was seen removing cars one by one from the roadway. People waited hours to get off of the mountain.
CHP closed Mt Baldy road to prevent more traffic from coming up the mountain. Finally, county road crews responded with snow plows to clear snow and ice from the roadway.
