The first significant rain storm of the winter is slamming Southern California. Heavy rain fell across the region in the early morning hours. Rain the in the valleys means snow in the local mountains.

Several inches of snow dropped in the mountain community of Wrightwood as well as the Big Bear mountains. Snow plows were out clearing roads all morning.

Caltrans has set up chain control checkpoints. Chains are mandatory for those traveling into the mountain areas. The storm is expected to move out Monday evening in time for the area to dry out for New Years.
