The Upland City Council voted behind closed doors to put Upland Police Chief Darren Goodman on paid administrative leave. Reasons were not given for Goodman’s leave of absence. City officials would only say Goodman’s leave has do with a “confidential personnel matter” and they cannot comment on it.
Lieutenant Cliff Matthews has been temporarily promoted to acting chief. According to officials, the city is safe and police services will not change or be altered. Goodman, who spent 27 years with the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department has been the chief at Upland Police since July 2018.
