A wind-driven brushfire in an empty lot on Central Avenue in Chino caught nearby trees on fire and spread to a Kaiser Medical Building. The fire started just after 3pm Monday afternoon in the 11800 block of Central Ave.

Embers from the vegetation caught a palm tree on fire which spread to the attic of the Kaiser Medical Building. The building was evacuated when firefighters arrived. They ventilated the roof as well as windows on the second floor to keep the fire from spreading.

Firefighters from Ontario, Montclair and county units from Upland assisted Chino firefighters in battling the blaze. One firefighter suffered a heat related injury. The damage estimate to the medical building or cause is unknown at this time.
