The Pomona Police Department Major crimes task force was busy overnight. Just after 11pm, the task force officers noticed several people loitering in front of a convenience store at Towne and Mission Boulevard. Police say the subjects were near two parked cars. As the officers made contact, they recognized Jose Aguilar as a convicted felon and known gang member. They say Aguilar made a quick movement towards one of the cars. It was later determined he attempted to ditch a stolen firearm in the vehicle. Aguilar was arrested and booked.

In another incident, task force officers observed a white Kia sedan enter the parking lot of a motel on Indian Hill and San Jose Avenues. As officers stopped the vehicle, the right rear passenger fled on foot. The suspect was caught as he climbed a fence. While being taken into custody, a loaded firearm fell out of his waistband. The suspect was identified as Alex Rodriguez a known gang member. He was booked on charges that included a felon in possession of a loaded unregistered firearm. The other occupants in the vehicle were also identified as known gang members.
